Privacy Policy

Locus is a research-reading tool. This page describes what we collect, why, and what we will never do with it. The short version: your papers are yours, we sell nothing, and you can delete everything yourself at any time.

What we collect

Account details — email address, name, and password hash (or your Google account identifier if you sign in with Google), stored with our database provider, Supabase.

Your research content — the PDFs you upload, the projects, flashcards, tags, notes, and conversations you create. PDFs live in private storage scoped to your account; no other user can access them.

Usage analytics — which screens you use and for how long. This is first-party only: it goes to our own database, never to a third-party tracker, and it never includes the content of your papers or questions. You can turn it off in Settings → Privacy, and the switch is honored immediately.

How AI features work

When you ask a question, create a flashcard, or use Locus for Word, the relevant text (and, for figure flashcards, the selected image) is sent to OpenAI to generate the response. We use OpenAI’s API, whose terms state that API data is not used to train their models. We do not use your content to train models of our own.

What we never do

We do not sell your data. We do not share your library, your questions, or your drafts with advertisers or data brokers. We do not read your papers except when you explicitly ask support to help with a specific problem.

Deleting your data

Settings → Privacy → Delete Account permanently removes your account, papers, flashcards, and analytics — including the stored PDF files. This is immediate and irreversible. You can also email us and we will do it for you.
